Trending Now: Pantone Color of 2018
I have to admit I was initially a little put off by the Pantone color selection for 2018, Ultra Violet. Last year’s Greenery was an easy sell (just add plants!), and the year before they changed things up and went with the cotton candy inspired duo: Serenity & Rose Quartz. Purple never has been my favorite color. In fact, it’s usually fallen somewhere near the bottom of the endless list of hues I adore. Even my Alma Mater (Kansas State) bleeds purple, yet my closet & home decor still lacks the color. What I do love about Ultra Violet, is the meaning behind the color, and why it was selected. It symbolizes experimentation & non-conformity, and was introduced to western pop culture by musical icons such as Prince, David Bowie & Jimi Hendrix. The executive director at the Pantone Color Institute states,
“We are living in a time that requires inventiveness and imagination. It is this kind of creative inspiration that is indigenous to PANTONE 18-3838 Ultra Violet, a blue-based purple that takes our awareness and potential to a higher level, from exploring new technologies and the greater galaxy, to artistic expression and spiritual reflection, intuitive Ultra Violet lights the way to what is yet to come.”
While I wasn’t intrigued at first by this color, after doing a little research I’ve fallen in love with both the meaning, and the spaces that showcase Ultra Violet (example above!). I keep envisioning a beautiful children’s nursery shaped with bright whites, warm wood tones and accents of this hue. This color is one that you definitely don’t want much of, but little touches here and there can turn a drab room bright and add life to any space. If you’re starting with a neutral palette, you can easily add in some Ultra Violet accessories to transform your room to a trendy, magazine worthy room! I’ve scoured the internet and pulled together a collection of my favorite accessories that highlight this color. Check them out below!
