How to: Paint outside the box

Lately I’ve had an obsession with non-traditional painted walls. Adding a simple paint transition can instantly take your space from a standard look to a custom designed room. If you don’t have an existing chair rail or decorative crown moulding, this is an easy way to dress up your home and add some character! Repainting a space is the most cost effective way to transform the way a room feels, so how about trying one of these unique approaches for your next paint upgrade?

Option 1: The faux headboard

Who needs a headboard when you can frame your bed with an interesting paint line. These options below draw your eye toward the bed and add some drama with the light/dark combo.

Option 2: The half painted wall

This is one of my favorite ways to dress up a room with paint.  You can create a natural datum line in the room by painting part of the wall–1/3 to 2/3 of the height is a safe bet.  This adds instant personality to the space–no artwork required!  For a more minimalist look, choose tone on tone neutral colors.  To make the space feel a little more bold, pair a darker color with white.  You really can’t go wrong here!

Option 3: The dipped paint room

This last option has a lot of impact, but can be the most difficult to achieve.  When deciding to do an accent wall, why not extend the paint few feet into the room and include the ceiling and floor to achieve more of a dipped paint look.  This look has an uber cool vibe and allows you to get away with minimal furniture due to the interest created with paint.

Which one are you ready to try??
